Pet Panel

One thing every pet owner should be aware of is the convenience of pet panel doors. Panel doors are doors that can be easily installed in an existing sliding glass door. Commonly known as patio panel doors, these doors fit into your sliding glass frame and adjust automatically to the height of your door because they have spring loaded mechanisms. There are automatic patio doors that respond to a sensor in your pet's collar in addition to those that utilize heavy duty flaps.

If you want your panel door installed into the wall, it may be necessary to hire a professional contractor or even the neighborhood handyman to put it in for you because there is cutting necessary. One thing you should know is that when it comes to wall mounted pet doors, panel or otherwise, there are self framing ones and those that are not self framing. Self framing doors are made to fit into the wall without a lot of hassle. If you don't have a self framing door professional installation is recommended unless you are knowledgeable about construction.

One thing you should be aware of is not every pet will know how to use a panel door right away. For pets unaccustomed to the concept of a pet door, training is required. If you are using a panel door with a flap, purchase what is called a training flap. Training flaps are clear, and much lighter than the average dog door flap. They let you and your dog practice the ins and outs without too much stress. Jumpy dogs may become nervous when they feel the door flap hit their back. This is one way the training flap helps acclimate them to the physical sensation and mental routine of using the door.

You can purchase pet panel doors at a variety of pet stores around the country. Petsmart and Petco are two major suppliers of pet doors and other supplies. However you can also purchase pet doors online with companies like Hale Pet Doors, Solo Pet Doors and a variety of other pet supply stores. Whether you buy your pet door from a specialty retailer or a major pet supply chain, you are sure to enjoy the convenience of having a dog door installed. Rather than jumping up to let your dog out at all hours, you can relax while they let themselves out.
